Garden State Girlchoir (GSG) is now in its second season, and will maintain a repertoire steeped in the classical tradition and enhanced by music from many cultures and time periods. GSG has been lauded as “a happy addition to the musical resources of the region.”
Members of GSG had an array of transformative music making opportunities its first season, including an ecumenical concert honoring children of all faiths, a Thanksgiving service, Holiday Concerts with the Pennsylvania Girlchoir, a Yom HaShoah Service commemorating the Holocaust, and a NEA-sponsored performance of The Children’s March chronicling a shining moment of the Civil Rights movement led by children. The first season culminated with a spectacular, not-to-be-missed performance on stage with the award-winning Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Prince of Egypt, and Wicked) at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, June 17, 2017. The Troubadors of the Garden State Girlchoir joined a tour Sweden with the Pennsylvania Girlchoir. The Kantorei of the Garden State Girlchoir will have an opportunity to tour nationally will Kantorei of the Pennsylvania Girlchoir.
The Garden State Girlchoir is part of the Commonwealth Youthchoirs (CY) family, which has a mission to transform the lives of young people through the power of making music together – one song a time. Along with Keystone State Boychoir, Pennsylvania Girlchoir, Find Your Instrument!, Good Mornin’ Music!, and the New Jersey Boychoir, the Garden State Girlchoir is part of the largest youth choral organization in the tri-state area, serving more than 700 children. CY singers have performed for presidents, popes and peace prize winners, and the organization holds the distinction of being the only one in history to have sung on all seven continents – including Antarctica. Members of the Garden State Girlchoir are offered unparalleled musical, cultural and social opportunities they won’t find anywhere else.
